The minimum age requirement to rent a vehicle with Alamo is 21 years of age, but there is a young driver surcharge for all customers renting a car under age 25. Car Rental under 21 is available in Michigan, New York State (info below), and for military personnel and government employees.
Car Rental Age Requirements & Additional Information:
- Car rental rates may be higher for renters between the ages of 21 and 24, a young driver surcharge may be applied.
- The primary renter and any additional drivers of the vehicle must be at least 25 years of age to avoid a young driver surcharge.
- Certain specialty and larger sized vehicles may not be rented to drivers under the age of 25.
- U.S. military personnel and government employers ages 18 or older will not incur a young driver surcharge when renting for authorized government travel.
- There is no maximum age restriction in the U.S. and Canada.

New York State Car Rental - Minimum Age Requirements:
- The minimum age is 18 years of age.
- A $64.50 per day additional charge applies to 18-20 aged renters.
- A $24.50 per day additional charge applies to 21-24 aged renters.
Michigan Car Rental - Minimum Age Requirements:
- The minimum age is 18 years of age.
- A $42.00 per day additional charge applies to 18-20 aged renters.
- A $19.00 per day additional charge applies to 21-24 aged renters.
